How To Set Up Email in Outlook Express
Outlook express is on the way out, but it is still (arguably) the easiest email program to use and used by people who have not got Vista or otherwise have not updated their operating system recently. If you get a new internet provider and with it a new email, knowing how to set up your email using Outlook Express is very useful.
The two settings that are the hardest are the server settings. You need to know if it is Pop3 or IMAP, you need to know the path to the mail which is usually something like mail.providername.com for both mail coming in and mail going out. Mail going out is usually SMPT and may or may not require a tick in the box that says it needs authentication. Lastly you need to know what port is used. A default port is filled in for you but your provider may use another one to prevent spamming.
This information is usually on your internet connection providers website – somewhere. Look for FAQs and Sitemap links and search the site using terms like “set up email” . If all else fails, get old fashioned, and get on the phone and ask them for these details. Once you have them save them on a document for next time or bookmark the page where you found them.

If you have a Yahoo Account you have to do it directly through Yahoo. There is a new Yahoo Mail that you can use this with but they make you buy it. This is now replaced with Windows Mail.

I don’t have an “account” button in my “tools” tab, how can I fix that?

You can look at the email headers. For outlook express you right click on the unopend email and click properties and then details.
Not sure if even that works as I have never tried it.

when I auto-forward my email from outlook express to a yahoo mail account, it doesn’t show me who sent it. The mail says that it was sent by MY email address, but I’d like to know who originally sent it to my outlook express box. Any idea how to fix this problem?

You need to contact your email provider or if you know someone who uses the same provider ask them to look at their account settings and they can tell you
July 9th, 2009 at 12:58 am
Your provider should tell you. You can always google your provider with keywords pop3 email server and see if it brings any results.
